Fall Into Literacy

October 13, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

United Way of Greater Los Angeles and Valero Wilmington Refinery are joining together to celebrate our community and improve literacy at the 8th Annual Fall Into Literacy on Saturday, October 13. The free festival will take place at The Banning Museum in Wilmington, CA. All families are invited to take part in educational activities and gain information about social services.

This year’s recurring theme, Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), honors the region’s rich cultural history while promoting literacy, education and access to basic-need resources. The event features live entertainment—including a special performance by Selenamos and an appearance by Elephant & Piggie—as well as book signings, storytelling, meet and greets with authors, book giveaways, and fun activities for the whole family.

This year’s event is sponsored by City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, City National Bank, PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Office of Joe Buscaino. In addition to the array of family activities, the festival features a resource fair where there will be opportunities to purchase books and connect with local organizations about services in education, health care, and financial stability.

Wilmington, an historically underserved community, is nestled between Torrance and Long Beach in L.A. County’s South Bay. Thanks to Valero’s philanthropic support, United Way of Greater Los Angeles has been able to make a collective impact in the community by creating a fun and inviting space for grade-level reading and by giving away more than 7,000 books.

Join us this year at Fall Into Literacy on October 13!
